Embryo Glue : Improving Implantation and Increasing Pregnancy Success

Embryo transfer is the final phase in IVF, yet it is one of the most essential, especially when only a few embryos are transferred at a time.

With the advancement of technology, scientists have developed techniques for precise chromosomal screening of embryos before implantation into the uterus. As a result, to improve the success rate of IVF pregnancy, the emphasis has turned to research on the process of embryo implantation and relevant substances or factors impacting embryo implantation.

One of the substances shown to be significant in embryo implantation is hyaluronan or hyaluronic acid, a form of sugar molecule the human body can produce naturally. This molecule is found in the endometrium and detected in very high concentrations during embryo implantation. Hyaluronan aids embryo implantation by functioning as an intermediary to bind Receptor CD44 on the embryo’s surface with the endometrial surface.

From the process above, hyaluronan has been developed into Embryo Glue – a solution that combines hyaluronan with proteins that aid in embryo growth. Embryo Glue is mixed with the culture solution of the embryo being transferred to the uterus, allowing hyaluronan in the solution to attach to Receptor CD44 on the embryo’s surface. After the transfer, hyaluronan will then bind Receptor CD44 onto the endometrium.

Since 2003, Embryo Glue has been regularly utilized to help boost the chances of pregnancy that necessitate embryo transfer. Embryo Glue has been found in studies to considerably boost the chances of conception. According to preliminary findings from 2003, the usage of Embryo Glue did not increase fetal malformations.
